School will be participating in our 4th annual McEducators’ Night
at the New Haven Road McDonald’s. Faculty and staff will volunteer to work
half-hour shifts; the school will receive a percentage of all sales made
during their time slot. Last year, thanks to the overwhelming support of our
students, their families and our faculty and staff, our school received over
$500.00. Hope you can attend! ***************************************************************************************************************************************** Student
of the Month
Every month each of our teachers will
choose one or two students from their classroom to be Student of the Month. The
criteria for this award changes monthly. Some may be chosen because of
exceptional mathematical skills, others are terrific artists, musicians,
athletes, readers, citizens and so forth.
This year, we have decided to honor those chosen in a special way.
Instead of our usual pizza lunch, we will recognize our Students of
the Month at our monthly PTO meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at
6:30 PM. The chosen students will have juice and a special dessert and then
our principal, Ms. Kane, will recognize each student’s accomplishments and
present each with a certificate and pencil.
We hope that parents, guardians and other invited
guests will join us in recognizing the outstanding behaviors and achievements
of these students. Parents who would like a copy of their family photo
taken at the ceremony should e-mail Mrs. Ciullo at ciulloc@naugy.net and put Student of the Month in subject line. Read

For the safety and security of all students, we ask that a note be sent in whenever your
child(ren) will be picked up from school. If they will be picked up on
certain days on a regular basis, one note for the entire year is sufficient.
If you need to pick up your child(ren) unexpectedly, please call the office
prior to 3:00 PM. All students must be
signed out before leaving the building. Parents requesting dismissal
before the normal end of the school day (3:20) must make a written request, come into the school office to pick
up the student, and sign the student out per Board Policy 5113.2. Special Thank You to:
Mrs. Soucy and Wal-Mart who contributed $250.00 to our school
through their VAP (Volunteerism Always
Pays) Program. Wal-Mart encourages their associates to volunteer in the
communities in which they work and live. When an associate volunteers,
Wal-Mart makes a charitable contribution to an organization of their choice.
This money has been earmarked for library books here at our school since Mrs.
Soucy spends many hours volunteering in our library. Upcoming Events:

On occasion, parents will ask for special permission for their child
to have his/her lunch heated before lunch. Due to safety concerns and the risk
of burns, we are unable to honor these requests. If your child must have a hot
lunch, please arrange to purchase that lunch from our cafeteria. A lunch from
home, such as a sandwich or salad that can be eaten at room temperature, is
another alternative.
The Principal’s Problem
In an effort to increase math problem solving skills, written math
communications, and parental involvement in mathematics, Ms. Kane will put out
a math problem every other Friday that will be collected on the following
Monday, reviewed and posted on a bulletin board. This is an optional activity and
students
may participate as often as they would like. Each student that submits a
completed
problem will be rewarded with a raffle ticket for a monthly drawing that my
include a book, ice cream, no homework coupon….Please join in this math family
fun!
End of the Day Pick-up Procedure (3:20 PM):
In an effort to maintain safety and security for all children, we will have a new and improved dismissal procedure.
Parents/designee will report to the cafeteria, with photo ID every day, and sign out their child(ren).
Parents/designee and siblings will remain
seated at the first 3 tables only since the room is often used for
instructional purposes.
Students must report to the sign-out
desk to be checked out before joining their parents and leaving the building.
AllergiK ID
Wristbands
Our Nurses’ Office has advised us that allergy-specific wristbands, custom
sized for young children,
are available from School Kids Healthcare. These wristbands make the
identification of a child’s specific
food allergy quick and easy. White recessed letters on the red band are
eye-catching to ensure maximum visibility.
They stretch for easy on and off and are available for the following
allergies: peanut, tree nut, egg, and dairy.
The cost is $11.95 for a package of 3.
If you are interested, you can check them out at Schoolkidsheatlhcare.com
or call 866-558-0686.
Safety First!
Flip-flops and backless shoes are a safety hazard and are not to be worn to school.
Due to fluctuating temperatures,
students should wear jackets to school each day.
If necessary, they will borrow a jacket from the nurses’ office if available.
