Approval of Minutes: Heather Willets made a motion to approve the minutes from the 9/3. Andy Alves seconded the motion. The motion was carried.

Presidents Report: President Diane Parzyck thanked everyone who helped with the Back to School Social! She also thanked everyone who attended and made the event a great success!

The Fall Festival will be on October 17 from 6-8. The “special guest” will be there around 7pm. Volunteers are needed for the craft table, face painting, bake table, raffle table and for assisting with the games. Christine Viele volunteered to assist with the face painting.

The Scholastic Book Fair will be October 21-23. Set-up will be October 20 at 3:30pm and volunteers are needed. There will be a raffle and there will be a parent evening on Wednesday evening from 6pm-8pm. We are looking for a volunteer to dress-up in a costume for the fair.

Room Parent notices went home on Friday. Second Vice President Sandy Minasian will be notifying Room Parents shortly.

Rosenblatt’s Department Store in Naugatuck will be selling Maple Hill Spiritwear at the store. Sales information will be going home, but people can stop down to the store and they will show anyone the available choices.

The PTO is looking to do a used book collection for two weeks in November. More information will be coming home on this.

First Vice President Sherri Hopkins reported that the fundraiser totaled almost $21,000 in sales including the online sales, which gives the school approximately $10,000 in profit! She reported that we basically need to earn $50 per student to effectively fundraise for a budget of $23,000 with a total of 470 students. We are off to a good start, but we still have work to do. She acknowledged the classes that achieved over $1000 in sales and handed out a list of the total sales for each class.

Principals Report: Principal Cheryl Kane welcomed everyone and congratulated all the Students of Month who were being honored this evening for being good citizens! She reviewed the upcoming calendar and the upcoming spirit days. She advised that there were now 460 students and 7 new teachers. There is also a new Physical Education teacher starting next week. She also reported that the fundraiser pick-up is tentatively scheduled for 10/29.

At this time-the Student’s of the Month were honored along with their teachers and their parents. Each student was acknowledged, the teachers read why they were chosen and Mrs. Ciuollo photographed each student with their parents and teachers.

BOE Report: Board of Education member Rocky Vitale advised the District Goals for 2007-2010:

1.     Achieve academic success in reading, writing, mathematics and science

2.     Work for a positive community and school partnership

3.     Expand high quality early education opportunities for all children

He advised that there was work being done on many of the schools in the district and that the High School work on the roof was just completed. They have proposed an additional 3% cut off the budget. There is a 10 year plan in place to redo all the HVAC in all the schools in order to improve the overall energy efficiency in all buildings.

Teachers Report: Teacher representative Pamela Fickel asked for additional volunteers for guided reading.

Treasurers Report: President Diane Parzyck reviewed each line item of the budget. We will vote on the budget at the November PTO meeting.

New Business: Box Tops coordinator Tracy O’Connell reported that the next drawing will be on October 10th. She reported that parents can help the school earn additional points by visiting the Box Tops site and registering and shopping via the Box Tops site or even just clicking from one site to another through the site. She asked everyone to go to the site and register.

Emily Freel volunteered to be the coordinator for Tyson Project A+. Notices will be coming home with more information on the program.

Diane Parzyck and Sherri Hopkins discussed options for additional fundraisers including:

·         Direct TV-if people sign up, Direct TV will donate to the school

·         Target-if people use their Target credit card, a percentage of sales can go to the school

·         BJ’s membership drive-same fundraiser as last year-for each new membership the school earns funds

·         Pizza Card-selling cards for local pizza establishments

Sherri will continue to research these options and send notices home as we move forward with any of the above fundraising options.

Samantha Stirk discussed the “Three For Me” program and advised parents that the PTO is asking for 3 hours of volunteer time to the school. Parents who sign the agreement and then achieve their 3 hours will be recognized on a bulletin board in the school using hand prints. Information will be coming home on the program.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55pm.

Minutes are pending approval at next PTO meeting scheduled for 11/5/08 at 7pm.
