CAS Volunteer Award

The Connecticut Association of Schools held its 8th Annual Elementary Parent Volunteer Recognition Banquet  at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. This program gives public recognition to parents or others who have made major contributions to a school.  The recipients at Maple Hill School this year were Mrs. Karen Robinson, Mrs. Jeanette Wheeler, and Mrs. Cindy Priest.

  NAUGATUCK — Borough police officers and fire­fighters were honored 
Tuesday at the Celebration of Connecticut Elementary Schools Success banquet for 
participating in a weekly volunteer program at Maple Hill Elementary School called “Badge Math.”  The ceremony, sponsored by the Connecticut Associ­ation of Schools, was held at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. The local officers and firefighters help Maple Hill pupils with math once a week for about an hour apiece, said Maple Hill Principal Cheryl Kane, who nominated the police and firefighters for the award. Policemen honored were: 
Lt. Gregory Dean; Lt. Je­remiah Scully, the department’s acting captain; 
detectives Jack DeOliveira and Larry Calhoun; and officer Chip Schofield.
  Firefighters recognized were: Lt. Gregory Flaherty and firefighter Jason Alford.
