HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PROGRAMS

Naugatuck Adult Education offers two different high school diploma options:  the Adult High School Credit Diploma Program (CDP) or the General Education Development Program (GED).  Both programs are explained in detail on the next two pages.

To enroll in either diploma program, adults must be 16 years of age or older and formally withdrawn from day school.  Students aged 16 – 18 must present documentation which shows withdrawal with parental permission.  Proof of age is required.

Counselors are available Tuesday through Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. to meet with interested adults and explain the diploma programs.  Participants are given a placement survey to determine instructional level.

In 2001, 69 adults earned their high school diploma through Naugatuck Adult Education!

Call 720-5282 for more information.

THE ADULT HIGH SCHOOL
CREDIT DIPLOMA PROGRAM (CDP)

The Credit Diploma Program offers adults the opportunity to earn a high school diploma through the Naugatuck Board of Education. Participants may earn credits through evening classes, independent-study curriculum packets and documented life experiences.  Credits may also be transferred from previously attended high schools.  A total of 22 credits is necessary for graduation.  All who wish to enroll should bring a copy of their previous high school transcript so counselors can review transfer credits.

Evening Classes

The Credit Diploma Program offers a variety of one-credit evening courses in English, Math, Social Studies, Science and electives.  Each course is held two evenings per week, Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m.  Each one-credit course requires 49.5 hours of attendance as well as successful completion of course work.

Independent Study Curriculum Packets

Curriculum packets are available in English, Math, Social Studies, Science and electives.  Each packet is divided into a specific number of chapters and students work independently to complete the required assignments and test for each chapter.  When students successfully complete all tests in the packet, they are awarded credit.  Counselors are available to determine which packets are appropriate for each student.  This component is offered as an additional way for students to earn credit, not as a stand-alone program.  Sign-ups for the packet program start one week after classes begin and continue throughout the school year.
