How to Buy a PC (personal computer)     
Is a new computer on your family’s list?  Before investing in a computer, make sure your choice is right for you.  This course will provide you with a working knowledge of Processors, RAM, Hard Drives, CD ROM Drives, Modems, and other computing hardware.  The implications of Windows operating systems will be discussed as well as retail and mail order buying options.

Computers for the Absolute Beginner     
Enter the world of computers.  Learn how the computer “thinks” and how it communicates with other hardware.  Explore the Windows operating system and learn how to set up and control your “desktop.”  An introduction to word processing and spreadsheets is included to get you started.

Windows Journey     
Navigate through the world of Windows with an expert guide.  First, you’ll learn the structure of the Windows operating system and the difference between Windows 98, 2000, NT and XP.  Next, you’ll visit the programs included in the Windows environment.  This is your chance to play computer tourist- come to our lab, play on our computers and have the benefit of our expert instructor as your guide!

Creating Digital Artwork - Limited to 10 students
Did you ever wonder where all those great graphics come from? Now the answer can be "You!" Learn how to create and manipulate digital images from a variety of sources. Work in the most popular formats: BMP, GIF and JPG, while exploring how to use each one to best advantage for presentations, e-mail and the Web.

Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2000
Excel is a powerful spreadsheet program.  This course will introduce you to what spreadsheets are and how they work, how to create and edit a spreadsheet, use the copy and move commands, and add and delete rows, columns and ranges.  You will learn how to get your spreadsheet in readable printout form and you will be able to create and print graphs.  After this class, you’ll have the capability to create, edit, retrieve, save, and printout Excel spreadsheets and graphs.

Introduction to Internet    
Join your friends and business associates on the information super highway with this introduction to Internet.  Learn the history of the ‘Net, how to setup and configure your web browser, make the most of the top search engines and use e-mail and newsgroups.  Learn how to find and download files.  Use Telnet to look up books on the CT State Library System.  You will browse the World Wide Web and be introduced to the basics of FTP and Telnet.  Internet can change your life—let us show you how.

Web Page—Building a Home (Page) On The Net    
You’ve sent e-mail and surfed the ‘Net, but now you want to make your presence known on the Web.  During this course, you will receive all the tools you need to make this happen.  It’s easy!  Start with the basic hammer and nails of hyper-text markup language (HTML).  You will create a page with some of the readily available handtools such as Netscape Composer and Internet Assistant.  Review some of the additional tools and editors readily available.  Learn basic webpage design, work with graphics, tables and frames. If you build it—they will come!

Digital Photography - Limited to 10 students    
This course will cover all essential aspects of digital photography: taking the shot, downloading onto the computer, editing and redesigning images, and designing cards and prints.  We’ll explain how to e-mail your photos and store them for future use.  This will become your new hobby.
