We will notify you ONLY if your class is canceled.
If we do not contact you, please assume your class is a "GO."
Refund Policy
If you must withdraw from any class, please notify us at least three days prior to the first class to be assured of receiving a full refund. Participants who withdraw after this time will be charged a 15% processing fee. No refunds will be given after the second session of a class. For one-session classes, participants must withdraw three days prior to the date of the session to receive a refund.
Material Fees
Additional fees and/or materials are required for some courses. Check the course description for the cost of such fees which are paid directly to the instructor.
Class Cancellation
Whenever the Naugatuck Public Schools are closed, Adult and Continuing Education classes do not meet. If inclement weather begins during the afternoon hours, listen to one of the following radio stations: 100.5 WRCH-FM, 96.5 WTIC-FM, 1080 WTIC-AM, 1320 WATR-AM. If a specific class is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances with the instructor, it will be held the following week on the same day and time.

Pottery Workshop
I ~ An Introductory Course in Raw Clay
Bring a shirt or smock. If you have ever wanted to try real pottery-making using moist clay, a potter’s wheel, and other hand-building methods, this is the course for you. We will explore various hand-building methods of creating pottery. You will be able to practice on one of our electric potter’s wheels and make "thrown" pots to glaze and take home. Projects will include a decorative tile, a mug, various bowls, a tray, a basket of flowers along with pots thrown on the wheel. All clay, glazes and firing are included in the course fee. This course is for people who have never taken the workshop with Kelly before. There will be a Pottery Workshop II offered in the Winter/Spring for people who have taken Pottery Workshop I.

Quilt
Club-Session I
Students will need their own sewing machines and extension cords. A list of required supplies and books will be distributed at the first class. Students will purchase their own materials.
Learn to Quilt by completing a table runner in a holiday theme or colors of your choice.
Intermediate to Advanced quilters may choose the Irish Chain design in the traditional pattern or the romance of a watercolor theme in a quick-assembly wall hanging or quilt.
Advanced Quilters will love the challenge and beauty of the Bethlehem Star/Lone Star design.

Folk Painting On Wood
Did you ever say to yourself, "I’d like to paint that myself?" Now you can and you will be surprised at the results. Circle

Etching
Would you like to try your hand at a unique craft? How about etching glass? Learn how to incorporate basic drawing skills into transfer designs that can be permanently etched into most glass surfaces. for People With Physical Disabilities
This course is designed for people who have physical disabilities and would like to learn the art of self-defense. Jeff Laliberte, who is a physically disabled resident of Naugatuck, has been teaching this course for the past five years. The class that has been successful in other areas will use the style of Tang Soo Do, a Korean martial art that encourages personal growth and development. Mr. Laliberte holds a 4th degree black belt and is a member of the Tang Soo Do Masters Alliance.

Reader’s Book
of the Month Club
After reading a good book, do you often wish you had someone with whom you could discuss it? This club is for the serious reader. We will choose a book to read for the month and then gather together for stimulating discussions. Bring some suggested readings to the first meeting. Getting Paid to Talk~Voice-Overs As A Profession
The field of professional voice work can be exciting, fun and lucrative. This two hour introductory class will explore the many aspects of voice-over work for television, film, radio and narration as well as emerging opportunities for voice in multimedia. We will cover all the basics, including how to prepare the all-important demo tape as well as how to bypass the competition and get the job. Class participants will also have the opportunity to record a short in-class commercial for playback and individual ability assessment.

Investing 101
This course is designed for beginners to learn the vocabulary and basic principles of investing as advocated by NAIC (National Association of Investors Corporation), a non-profit educational organization. NAIC Directors are not financial analysts or stockbrokers. They are volunteers trained by NAIC in the use of proven tools to analyze fundamentals of companies. Sessions will present the tools needed to find and analyze growth companies at reasonable rates. The NAIC is not associated with any investment brokerage firms. They are strictly independent. Course fee is paid directly to the non-profit organization. Naugatuck Continuing Education is managing the registration process only. The NAIC handbook will be provided at no extra charge.

Tax Relief 2001: Section 529 College Funding Changes and Educational IRAs for K-12
Every parent knows the importance of funding quality educational opportunities for their children. This seminar will uncover the financial tools designed to accomplish those goals. We’ll discuss and compare section 529 College funding plans, educational IRA’s and UGMA (Uniform Gift to Minors Act) accounts. Major changes including increases in allowable contributions, use of Educational IRAs to fund private school education grades K-12 and tax free distributions of section 529 plan monies for qualified educational expenses will be discussed. Financial Planning for Everyone—Investing for the Long Run
This course will introduce the practical basics of Financial Planning. Goal setting for specific life events such as retirement or education, using various investment disciplines based on each individual’s specific time horizon and risk tolerance will be discussed. We’ll review the building blocks of investing financial products—namely stocks, bonds, CD’s mutual funds, annuities, and managed money.
