English as a Second Language classes are offered at four levels: Literacy,
Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced. Classes teach English conversation,
vocabulary, reading, writing and American life-skills. Participants are
given a placement survey to determine instructional level.

Citizenship offers an introduction to American government and provides
a review of the questions asked on the Naturalization Exam. If needed,
participants will receive help completing the naturalization application.

Adult Basic Education classes teach basic reading and math skills to
English speaking adults. This course will help students gain the skills
necessary to enter a diploma program and improve skills. Instruction is

NAUGATUCK ADULT and CONTINUING EDUCATION
offers two diploma options: GED and High School Credit Diploma
Counselors are available Monday through Thursday between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. when adult education is in session. You may see a counselor to learn about our program options or to begin the enrollment process. Students aged 16 18 must present documentation which shows formal withdrawal from day school and a copy of their high school transcript. Please call 720-5282 with any additional questions.
GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT DIPLOMA (GED)
GED classes prepare adults to take the five-part GED Examination to
earn a Connecticut State High School Diploma. GED classes provide individualized
instruction. Adults may enroll at any time. Participants are given a placement
survey to determine instructional level.

The credit diploma program offers adults the opportunity to earn a high school diploma through the Naugatuck Board of Education. Adult Education credits may be earned through a combination of classes, independent study curriculum packets, and documented work, training, military or community service experiences. To earn a Naugatuck diploma, participants must obtain 22 credits. Credits may be transferred from high school, vocational/technical schools, and accredited colleges. Adults who wish to enroll should bring a copy of their previous high school transcript so counselors can review transfer credits. Participants are given a placement survey to determine instructional levels.
Classroom Component:
Credit will be awarded for the successful completion of each adult high
school course. One-credit classes require 50 hours of attendance as well
as successful completion of course work. A variety of classes are offered
in English, Math, Social Studies, Science and electives. Half credit classes
in computer, business and foreign language are also available.

Curriculum Packet Component:
Participants work independently to complete assignments required for
each chapter in the curriculum packet then complete an assessment for that
chapter. When students successfully complete all assessments in the curriculum
packet, they are awarded credit. Counselors are available to determine
which packets are appropriate for each student.
