About Head Start/School Readiness:
The Head Start & School Readiness program is NAEYC accredited and provides a quality early education to all children enrolled as well as comprehensive family development services. Children and their families receive health, mental health, social and nutritional services from qualified professionals. Such services include but are not limited to: Nutritious meals and snacks, vision and hearing screenings, speech and language therapy, special needs services.
Parents are partners in their child's education. We believe that parents are their child's most important teacher. Parents and staff work together to help every child develop according to their individual needs. Parents participate in every aspect of the program, from volunteering in the classroom to program policy and decision-making.
Teachers complete educational screening/assessments on each child and track their progress. They are then able to see the strengths and weaknesses and focus on those areas. Assessments completed are: Batelle Developmental Inventory, Creative Curriculum and DECA.
Family Advocates are available to help identifiy and obtain support services and programs for families. Resources and referrals are made for job training and education programs including family literacy, computer training, English as a second language (ESL) and GED classes. In addition resources are available in the areas of health including dental and supportive counseling services.
